Proverbs 21:23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity (disaster).

If you rule your speech, you will save yourself from trouble. Your mouth and tongue are two of your greatest enemies. If you will keep them under control and only speak the right words at the right time, your life will be blessed. It is ungoverned speech that gets men into all sorts of trouble. Here is wisdom for a good life.
You can get into trouble by filthy talking, foolish talking, and jesting. You can damage your reputation, hurt others’ feelings, and waste time with such talking.
You can get into trouble talking negatively about others. Men will know you are wicked, and you will create hostility and strife. They are much like murder, in that they destroy another’s reputation
You can get into trouble by complaining. Who likes a complainer? The LORD hates complaining, and He judges it severely (Num 11:1; Ps 106:24-27 it is God’s will for your mouth and tongue to give thanks.
You can get into trouble by vows to God. In the difficulties of a painful situation, it is easy to promise things to God to move Him to deliver you. But the Lord warns against such oaths (Eccl 5:1-3). It is better not to vow at all, than to vow and not pay (Eccl 5:4-7).
You can get into trouble by lying. Everyone hates a liar. No one can trust a liar. Severe punishments are reserved for liars and perjurers. And all liars shall spend eternity in the lake of fire (Rev 21:8,27; 22:15).
You can get into trouble by disrespecting authority. Do not curse the king (President) even in your thoughts or bedroom (Eccl 10:20). A little bird will carry the wicked words, and you will be in trouble. God despises those who speak evil of rulers (II Pet 2:10-12; Jude 1:8-10). Children must honor parents, wives their husbands, employees their employers, and church members their pastors (Eph 5:33; 6:1-3; I Thes 5:12-13; Titus 2:9-10; I Pet 3:5-6).
You can get in trouble by hurting those around you. Spouses, children, and friends can easily be hurt by cutting words (12:18; Eph 6:4; Col 3:19). Harsh words stir up anger and cause fights to escalate (15:1).
How can you avoid trouble with your mouth and tongue?
First, cut your words in half, for many words always contain sin (10:19).
Second, slow down and emphasize listening before speaking (29:20; Jas 1:19).
Third, remember that you will give an account for every idle word and be judged for your words (Matt 12:34-37).
Fourth, pray like David, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Ps 141:3).
Rather than trouble, the man who guards his mouth and tongue will enjoy the good life, guaranteed by the infallible word of God
There was never trouble for the Lord Jesus Christ by His mouth and tongue. He spoke like no other man in the world’s history (Ps 45:2; Luke 4:22; John 7:46). There was nothing to charge Him for at His trial, so the Jews falsely accused Him by perverting His pure words (Matt 26:59-61). His pure words will soon judge their sins (Matt 7:21-23).

John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus himself is the truth that sets us free. He is the source of truth, the perfect standard of what is right, He frees us from continued slavery to sin, from self-deception, and from deception by Satan. He shows us clearly the way to eternal life with God. Thus Jesus does not give us freedom to do what we want, but freedom to follow God. As we seek to serve God, Jesus perfect truth frees us to be all that God meant us to be.

Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?

No one is without sin. As soon as we confess our sin and repent, sinful thoughts and actions begin to creep back into our lives. We all need ongoing cleansing, moment by moment. Thank God he provides forgiveness by his mercy when we ask for it. Make confession and repentance a regular part of your talks with God. Rely on him moment by moment for the cleansing you need.

John 8:21-24 But he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.”

People will die in their sins if they reject Christ, because they are rejecting the only way to be rescued from sin. Sadly, many are so taken up with the values of this world that they are blind to the priceless gift Christ offers. Where are you looking? Don’t focus on this world’s values and miss what is most valuable-eternal life with God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; (6) in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 19:04 Wealth brings many friends, but a poor man’s friend deserts him.

Money creates friends! It sure does! The rich always have followers of happy and serving friends. But the friendships are false, and the happy and helpful followers are only looking out for themselves. Once the money runs out, the fair weather friends fly away, the entourage disappears. Even once-helpful neighbors avoid and reject a poor man.
The love of money is the root of all evil. It causes men to make friendships based on financial gain rather than character. These are not real friendships, but relationships of greed and materialism. When the money runs out, the friendship ends. Even neighbors, who should have a sense of duty to one another, will avoid and reject those who are poor.

Proverbs 18.13,15,17 – 13) He who answers before listening-that is his folly and his shame
15) The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.
18) Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart.

In these concise statements, there are three basic principles for making sound decisions: (1) get the facts before answering; (2) be open to new ideas; (3) make sure you hear both sides of the story before judging. All three principles center around seeking additional information. This is difficult work, but the only alternative is prejudice-judging before getting the facts.

John 8:13-18 The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony in not valid.” Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. You judge by human standards, I pass judgment on no one. But if I do judge my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me”

The Pharisees thought Jesus was either a lunatic or a liar. Jesus provided them with a third alternative: he was telling the truth. Because most of the Pharisees refused to consider the third alternative, they never recognized him as Messiah and Lord. If you are seeking to know who Jesus is, do not close any door before looking through it honestly. Only with an open mind will you know the truth that he is Messiah and Lord.

The Pharisees argued that Jesus claim was legally invalid because he had no other witnesses. Jesus responded that his confirming witness was God himself. Jesus and the Father made two witnesses, the number required by the law (Deuteronomy (19:15)

John 8:11 Jesus forgives and tells the Adulterous Woman to “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

John 5:14 Jesus tell the paralyzed man “See you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

God might have healed the paralyzed man, and forgave the adulterous woman, but he left them with commands to follow. The man was delighted to be physically healed, but he had to turn from his sins and seek God’s forgiveness to be spiritually healed. The woman had to leave her life of sin. God’s forgiveness is the greatest gift you will ever receive. Don’t neglect his gracious offer.

We don’t want our life on earth to be painful due to the sins we commit. We open the door and give the devil a foot hole into our lives when we carry these sins with us. We do not want to be beat up by the adversary on the daily.

We are not the judge of each other’s sin. God is the Judge who sees all and knows all. We need to start fighting today against the sins that have control over us. If there are any sins that we are currently in, or struggling with, let’s turn it over to God today and let’s start the spiritual battle. Remember, God already has the victory.

Remember James 1:2-3 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

Let God be the one who places trials in our life. At least we know it is He who is placing more weight on the bar to make us stronger.

James 1:4-8 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and compete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he ask, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

I don’t want to miss out on my blessing due to the sin in my life. Confesses to God today and let the Lord be your Personal Trainer with your Spiritual Training.

Proverbs 17:09 Wisdom for the Soul

Under Gods Command Proverbs 17:9 – He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.

This proverb is saying that we should be willing to forgive others’ sins against us. Covering over offenses is necessary to any relationship. It is tempting, especially in an argument, to bring up all the mistakes the other person has ever made. Love however, keeps its mouth shut-difficult though that may be. Try never to bring anything into an argument that is unrelated to the topic being discussed. As we grow to be like Christ, we will acquire God’s ability to forget the confessed sins of the past.

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus Christ is the Creator of life, and his life brings light to mankind. In his light, we see ourselves as we really are (sinners in need of a Savior). When we follow Jesus, the true Light, we can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. He lights the path ahead of us so we can see how to live. He removes the darkness of sin from our lives. In what ways have you allowed the light of Christ to shine into your life? Let Christ guide your life, and you’ll never need to stumble in darkness.

We need to follow Christ as a soldier follows his Captain, so we should follow Christ, our Commander. As a slave follows his master, so we should follow Christ, our Lord. As we follow the advice of a trusted counselor, so we should follow Jesus’ commands to us in Scripture. As we follow the laws of our nation, so we should follow the laws of the Kingdom of heaven.
